“The world sends us garbage. We send back music.” Flavio Chavez, Landfill Harmonic Orchestra director
Mr. Chavez gathered children from the slums and organized recycled orchestra that performs with instruments made out of trash. Heartbreaking message sent to us from Paraguay points to our carelessness when throwing out trash and people’s lives to the landfills. Art director gave new life not only to items being recreated to musical instruments, but also to children who could discover the beauty of music. The miracle is that all instruments are well tuned; Mozart sneaked into the poorest quarter Cateure in Latin America to inspire minds and souls of young musicians. Please, next time think about throwing an oil can and wood in the garbage, because somebody can have cello out of it. Instruments look like a joke, but it is hardly funny. Support the idea to strive for knowledge instead of material things. “Even trash can become an educational tool that could change someone’s life“. Take a moment to think, re-evaluate and support the idea to make these people survive.
